If you’re like many Acrolinx customers and work in a large enterprise, you probably have a large brand style guide. It’s usually hundreds of pages long, designed to keep your content aligned with your brand, business goals, and compliance requirements. Ask yourself:

Leaders looking to invest in LLMs are looking for the control over risk and to get the right answers out of their LLM. But what if you want to train or ground your LLM for specific use cases? Well you probably want to train it on a narrower data set (for example, for code creation, medical applications, or customer support conversations). Let’s explore the different definitions that describe techniques that take your content, and use it to ground or fine-tune your LLM, to produce different desired outputs. They’re designed to:

  • Anchors model responses to specific information.
  • Enhances the trustworthiness and applicability of the generated content.

Fine-tuning involves adjusting an already pre-trained model on a new, typically smaller, dataset that’s specific to a particular task or domain. It works by adjusting a pre-trained LLM to a specific task by further training the model on a narrower dataset for a specific application – like a customer service chatbot, or medical research. 

Enhancing AI accuracy with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)

RAG is the process of optimizing the output of an LLM, so it references an authoritative knowledge base outside of its training data sources before generating a response.

RAG is the most effective technique for LLM grounding. RAG enriches LLMs with your trusted, up-to-date business data. It improves the relevance and reliability of LLM responses by adding a data retrieval stage. Usually, that happens via a prompt, to the response generation process.
