What the difference between translation and localization?
Translation is the process of converting text from one language to another word-for-word or meaning-for-meaning while preserving accuracy. The level of changes made in the process is minimal, and it focuses primarily on linguistic accuracy.
Localization is the broader process of adapting content to a specific market by translating text, modifying design elements, adjusting formats (date, time, currency), and maintaining technical and legal compliance. It focuses on making content functionally and culturally appropriate without significantly altering its core message.
What is content transcreation?
Transcreation, on the other hand, goes beyond translation and localization by rewriting the source content to preserve its emotional impact, intent, and brand voice in a way that resonates with the target audience. It’s often used for marketing, advertising, and creative content where literal translation, or even localization, would not be as effective.
