Acrolinx initiates international research project with partners in the field of language technology
ACCEPT receives funding from the European Commission in the amount of 2.8 million euros
Berlin, December 20, 2011: Acrolinx, the universities of Edinburgh and Geneva, the software manufacturer Symantec, and the non-profit organization Translators without Borders today launched the international research project ACCEPT. The goal of ACCEPT – an acronym for Automated Community Content Editing Portal – is thedevelopment of innovative technologies in the field of machine translation. The consortium received funding from the European Commission in the amount of 2.8 million euros and begins the project in January 2012 for a duration of 36 months. “We are very excited about this project and it’s especially thrilling to carry out a project together with so many internationally renowned institutions. ACCEPT enables us to develop innovative and new ideas to improve machine translation, especially in the field of community-generated content, and to convert these ideas into actual technology”, explains Dr. Melanie Siegel, Head of Research and Innovation at Acrolinx. “Symantec, part of the research team, has experience working with Acrolinx on implementing challenging machine translation projects”, adds Dr. Andrew Bredenkamp, CEO at Acrolinx.
Machine Translation for Web 2.0
The project began due to the rapid expansion of the use of machine translation and the proliferation of social media and user-generated content. Currently, social media content is not a good source for high quality machine translation because of the variation and nature of user-generated conversations. ACCEPT focuses on this aspect and looks to improve machine translation especially in the field of social networks. Theproject focuses on three areas:
- Developing new technology models for content preparation (pre-editing)
- Developing strategies for content post-processing (post-editing)
- Integrating innovative text analysis tools intotechnologies for the development of statistical machine translation
Collaboration of leading partners in the field of language technology
ACCEPT joins Acrolinx, the leading manufacturer in content quality solutions, together with the universities of Edinburgh and Geneva, both renowned for their research centers in the field of machine translation. Also participating are Symantec and Translators without Borders, two highlyexperienced users of machine translation systems, who will add their extensive experience of online communities and internet forums.
